The biggest space stretcher, though, came by taking
advantage of the outdoors. A new front patio and a
renovated covered back patio ensure the family
doesn’t live elbow to elbow. “I call the back patio our
outdoor living room,” Erin says. An old picnic table
left by the previous owners became a much-used
treasure after Erin refurbished it. “You can’t find
anything like that anymore,” she says. The same
goes for the “cheeseburger window,” the Curcis’
name for a cutout where they pass food from the
kitchen to the patio. The only thing the family hasn’t
found room for is pretense. “When you have a small
house, you need to have some fun,” Erin says.
